After leaving Cheyenne, we drove to Newton, KS, over three days. We stayed in North Platte, NE the first night and Salina, KS the second night. Both days were reasonable, except for the 100+ temperature. Luckily, the AC in the truck kept working and we were reasonably cool during the drive, and the AC in the trailer kept us cool in the evenings.
We reached the Spring Lake RV Park in Halstead, KS a couple of days ago. It is about 10 miles from where Alice's sister Margaret and her husband Ralph are living. We got a Passport America deal, so the two nights here cost only $26.
We were parked under a couple of nice big trees, so even though the temperature continued above 100 during the day, the rig stayed nice and cool for the dogs while we visited with Margaret and Ralph.
Both Margaret and Ralph are really showing their age (mid/upper 80s) and are having health problems. Margaret has been suffering strokes and has trouble talking. Ralph has to shuffle along when he walks. But they are in good spirits.
Today when we visited with them, son John and daughter Ruth (with husband Kirt) also came by, so it was a nice family gathering. Ruth's daughter Erin also came by with her husband Josh. Margaret and Ralph enjoyed listening to everyone talking at once.
Tomorrow we head out on the road again, this time headed for Memphis. It will take three days of traveling, but it should be an easy trip.
