In just over a week we start on our epic winter journey. Here is our plan, more for me so I can remember, but also for those who might be interested in where we are from time to time.
We pull our rig out of Jojoba Hills on Tuesday, 12/21, heading to Sacramento. I expect we will stop by Soledad TTN park, then by my sister to see her family, and then arrive at the Lake Minden TTN park on Thursday. We plan to see son Michael and family sometime over Christmas and then move our rig to storage. Wolf will go visit with Deb and Paula.
Tuesday, 12/28, Deb is supposed to take us to the Amtrak depot in Sacto to catch the California Zephyr as is flies past sometime around 11:09am. We spend a little over two days on the train until we arrive in Chicago at 2:50pm on Thursday. We transfer to the Amtrak Lincoln Service 305, leaving at 5:15pm for a short hop to Springfield, IL, arriving at 8:39pm. Hopefully, someone will be there to pick us up for the drive back down to Collinsville, IL.
We plan to spend 12 nights with son David and family and attend the retirement ceremony for JC at Scott AFB on 1/5/11. I will probably have to wear long pants.
Then at 8:37am on Tuesday, 1/11, we catch the Amtrak Lincoln Service 302 in Springfield to arrive in Chicago at 12:20pm. We switch to the Zephyr again and leave Chicago at 2pm. We should be back in Sacramento on Thursday, 1/13, at 2:13pm. Hopefully, Deb will be there to take us back to our rig at Lake Minden.
We expect to head back to Jojoba Hills shortly after returning to Sacramento. But I may decide to must miss a Board meeting unless there is something important to handle.
What is amazing is that even though Alice and I have a roomette, our trip costs just $1,500 for the two of us. Travel on Tuesday if you can, and enjoy the train.
We will keep you posted on what we see.
