One of the problems with getting older is that the amount of time available is decreasing at a faster and faster rate. One would think the natural response would be to slow down to enjoy the time that remains.
Ha!
I seem to be spreading myself thinner and thinner, even faster than the time remaining is decreasing. But then again, maybe there is less time remaining than I think. Let's don't go there.
Some of the spreading is forced upon a person. For instance, at the beginning of last week I suddenly had a toothache. I took a couple of Advil hoping it would go away. Two days later it was still there, and even a little worse. So I broke down and got a referal to a good dentist from a friend, made an appointment, and went in for a checkup. Dr. Currier quickly refered me to a periodontist for a thorough exam. Dr Roncone shook her head and said at the least, I needed a deep cleaning -- next Monday (tomorrow). Then she could see if even more drastic measures were required.
I hope deep cleaning is as thin as this gets. Of course, there is now the time I must devote to cleaning my teeth twice a day, but what the heck, I figure I am simply making up for the last four years of neglect, so I have some time in that budget.
My other action to spread myself thin was agreeing to serve on the Board here at Jojoba Hills to fill in for a member who must resign for health reasons. At least I had mostly finished with being Chair of the 2011 Budget Committee. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
I suppose my list of things to do was getting too short, down to a page and a half. I still need to finish my next book. Argh!
