We have a delightful lot with a tremendous view of the Palomar Mountains here at Jojoba Hills. We moved from 815 to 731 last spring, then went away for nearly three months, and have now been back for the last six weeks. I have been doing various fixup jobs around the place and getting things in order on the lot. We now have plants and bird feeders in place, and the more scraggly bushes have been trimmed.
One of the greatest improvements is the replacement of the cushions on the patio swing and two chairs. They were pricey because of their somewhat unique design, but they are made of "sunbrella" material that sheds water and can take extended exposure to the outdoor environment.
At this time of year, the temperature and breeze typically becomes very moderate and pleasant by about 5pm in the late afternoon. That is when Alice and I go outside with our glass of wine and peanuts and sit in our "new" chairs and swing and watch the sun set.
The sun sets behind us on the other side of the rig, but the light shines across the side hills of the Palomars and highlights the rocky escarpment to the east of us. The progress is slow, but the shadows climb up the side of the mountains until only the tips of the hills are lit, and then they too disappear into the darkness. The shadow climbs up the escarpment and the granite boulders slowly fade into the shadows.
Last to go are the clouds. The highest remain white the longest as the rest of the sky turns pink then orange then red then gray.
It is all a beautiful sight, made all the better with the great new cushions.
