One of the major topics of conversation whenever you get a group of oldsters together is doctors: what they are doing to you, what they did to you, what they should have done to you, ad nauseum. And, oh yes, which medical program do you have?
It cooled off here in Aguanga for a few days, but now it is back to hot, over 100 degrees. This is a hell of a time to have doctor's appointments. At least you have air conditioning in your transportation, but you have to walk from the car to the doctor's office. And you dare not take the dog along, even if the temperature has moderated. If the heat does not kill the pet, some do-gooder will report the owner.
That happened to our neighbors during the cool spell. They left their dog in the car with the windows open and went inside a restaurant for a quick bite. Before the sandwiches arrived the waitress came by to say the police were looking for someone with a green van with a dog inside. M jumped up and hurried outside to find two police cars nosing her CRV. They had called Animal Control who was on the way. She tried to convince the police there was no problem, but they were resolute.
Then the waitress came running out to say M's husband had collapsed inside and the ambulance was on the way. Everyone rushed inside, and D was on the floor. A nurse was helping him sit up. Then M remembered the dog and rushed back outside. The police informed her they had cancelled the Animal Control call.
When the medics arrived D refused to be transported, he said he never felt better but was just mad about the dog in the car. Eventually, M, D, and the dog got back into the CRV and headed out. Thank God it was not a hot day!
Okay, that is not exactly how it all happened, but it's close enough for when it heats up.
