Sam Penny: Was a Time When
A Novel That Asks, "What Happens WHEN, Not IF, Resource Depletion, Population Pressures, and Climate Change Push The World of Our Grandchildren Into a Great Collapse?"
We are 1998 retirees who search for ways to survive the future and tell others what we find
Sam and Alice Penny retired in 1998 from the electronics industry in the San Francisco Bay area. We sold all our property and set forth in a 34' fifth-wheel trailer pulled by a 3/4-ton Dodge diesel pickup to see the United States.
Along the way we came to realize that the key was to learn how to survive on a minimum level of resources. We enjoyed boondocking in the desert and getting along on a shoe-string. We looked into solar and power and water management.
Two novels, Memphis 7.9 and Broken River, came out of our experience, interest in seismology, and wanting people to understand what it would take to live in the middle of a catastrophy.
We worked on getting a good solar power system together. And then we found LightBlasters LEDs that met our requirements for lighting in our RV. We became dealers and started doing shows around the country to sell these products.
At least it has been an excuse to keep moving, traveling to new areas and cities we had not seen. We will keep it up, at least for the time being.
