In the long term, the three "big cats" facing our world are resource depletion, over-population, and climate change. We have the additional catastrophe in the global economy. But with all the frenetic action taking place these days in the debt crisis and market instability, it is easy to forget there may be even worse problems in the future. The problems of today consume all our time, and all our thoughts.
Stepping back, it seems to me that there are more people who are aware that there are severe problems in this world's future. Some think this is a new thing, but more people are catching on to the fact that these problems have been around for some time, and the problems will continue to be around. These problems do require some attention -- now.
So as you fret about whether your portfolio is up or down or sideways, keep thinking about what you can do to prepare for the future, and how you can make that future more sustainable. Be among those who are catching on.
