Say something worthwhile -- but what? I'm not very quick at using this venue to discuss the world situation regarding Peak Oil, Climate Change, and Population Overrun. I feel I should be more vocal, but it seems futile to say anything. Most everything has been said, and I can't think of something worthwhile to add. Maybe it is because I am not seeing much in the way of a proactive response to the continued warnings of problems coming down the road at us.
There are some who keep trying, but there are so many more who simply argue that there is not really any kind of a problem, or at least, not a problem near enough for them to worry about.
There does seem to be more open press about Peak Oil, and maybe even more recognition from some of those in a position to make a difference. The military is looking into alternative fuels. But the level of noise saying there is nothing to worry about keeps rising as well. I have become resigned to the fact that the problems of price and availability of fossil fuels must become critically acute before our society will take some kind of action strong enough to make a difference.
More people are saying that this strange weather we are having is making a difference, and world organizations are warning that food supplies are becoming more critical, and starvation will become even more prevalent. Water is becoming more of an issue -- without enough water there is not enough food.
There may be some progress being made on the population fronts. Some of the birth rates are dropping. But I am not sure we have 100 years needed to bring the population back to something managable before things fall apart.
I will keep thinking, searching for something worthwhile to say. At least I can say that I haven't changed my mind about the severity of the times coming toward us. It is going to be rough for those that are around.
